It’s difficult to reject people at work as it can go wrong in so many ways. Not only that, but you can’t escape from this person, you’re going to have to see them every day. You’re going to need to reject them firmly, but in a way that won’t cause them to have a vendetta against you.

Sometimes you can’t help it, no matter what you do or say they will hate you if you reject them. Some people are just entitled and think that you owe them something.

“I have a partner”

This one is the most effective excuse that you can use but use it carefully as you may have to prove that you have a partner at some point. People will look at your social media and they may ask you to bring them to a social event. In situations like this, it’s good to have a stand-in if possible.

If you have a partner they can’t complain and should back off, but that doesn’t guarantee that they will. Some people will still test the strength of your relationships.

“I’ve just gotten out of a relationship”

This is a good excuse that will buy you time until you can think of another one. If you’re put on the spot and can’t think of anything then this is the route to go.
