Addiction to video games is bad but addiction to TV is fine
If you ask someone over the age of 35 about video games they’ll tell you that young people these days spend too much time indoors playing them. They’ll then go on a long rant about how they used to play outside all the time and they’ll tell you about all the things they did without technology.
This is true in a way, more people spend basically all their time indoors and playing video games than ever, but it’s not everyone. I think people are out more than people make out, it depends where you go, some places are more indoorsy than others.
Whilst there are issues with people and video game addiction, let’s not pretend it’s the first digital addiction that people have had. The TV, which can be a companion to video games has been holding people captive for generations now.
Is TV addiction worse than video game addiction?
It’s not good to compare addictions but I think TV addiction wins here. When you’re playing video games you’re at least using your brain to a degree. The game you’re playing dictates how much you’re using your brain. For example, playing a repetitive first-person shooter is not going to require as much brain activity as playing an RPG.
