At what point do you live the life you want to live and stop caring what others think?
As I get closer to 30, I think about the life I want when I’m old and how I’m going to get there. It involves doing things that other people may view as weird or sad. But I don’t and can’t care for the most part or I will never get to my destination.
I’m not fully there yet, but at some point you have to be prepared to take the criticism and do what makes you happy. It’s not easy, and it involves potentially embarrassing yourself and being left out of the group sometimes. But, it’s way better than living a lie to fit in.
As kids and in our 20s a good portion of the things we do is to fit in and impress other people. At what point do we say: “Fuck it” and do what we like to do regardless of the hate we may receive for it?
Don’t let people control you
People will try and use their judgement and social pressure to control you. This is why you’re a very powerful person when you don’t let others dictate how you feel about yourself. If you’re able to do what you like in the face of criticism and social pressure then you’re a very strong person.
