Being independent at work is a problem apparently

Companies always say that they want strong independent people that will offer ideas and challenge old methods. It’s a typical thing for employers to put on a job advert, and they often bring it up in job interviews.

When you actually get the job and show some independence and provide ideas, it’s rarely received well, in fact, it’s often dismissed. People don’t know what they really want, they just like the idea of it.

The corporate world is full of shit so take what people say with a pinch of salt.

People are scared of independence

Lots of people are scared of independence. People who can stand alone and bare the brunt of criticism and hurdle obstacles by themselves are intimidating.

It’s natural for humans to conform even if they don’t know why they’re conforming and even if they don’t agree with the group’s views.

It’s better to be in a group that you disagree with than by yourself — to some people anyway.

It’s confusing for them. They don’t understand why or how some people can be by themselves. They wonder why they aren’t scared or why they aren’t hurting when others try and cause them pain.
