Can a job you hate make you depressed?
Some people have this idea that you should just put up with a job that you hate. They think that you should toughen up and go to work even if it’s killing you inside, and if you don’t it’s because you’re “soft”. But there is a real reason to quit a job you hate, a mental health reason.
The new generation isn’t soft or weak, we’re just way more conscious of our mental health and we aren’t afraid to leave a shitty job if it’s ruining our life.
You spend most of your time at work
You spend most of your life at work, so if you’re depressed at work that means that you’re going to be depressed for the majority of your life. It doesn’t take a genius to realise that you should do something that you can at least put up with.
You’re going to be sitting there seething in an environment that is making you sad, and you’re only free for a few hours before you have to go back again.
Your depression won’t magically go away when you’re at home either. You will most likely feel better, but the thought of going back is going to keep you in a depressed state.
