Can there be too much diversity and inclusion?
Some people are saying that there is too much diversity and inclusion nowadays. Your first thought might be that the people saying this are just bigots who hate people that are different to them, and there are a lot of those people we can all see who they are. But are there any arguments to support this statement?
Forcing people into roles
A lot of companies are forcing people into roles that they’re not best suited for just so they can have more diversity on their team or in their department. This means that you risk hiring underqualified people which leads to more mistakes and lower team morale.
Not only is the rest of the team going to be questioning the new person, but they themselves will feel like a fraud. This will be enhanced if the person you’ve hired actually isn’t good at their job at all.
Ruining your hiring process
Hiring for diversity definitely changes your hiring process. You’re not going to be hiring in a fair way all of the time, in some cases you’re going to be hiring people that check a box, and it’s not fair on some of your candidates.
