Do you play the corporate game?

Do you play the corporate game? If you do, to what extent? There are benefits to playing and not playing it, and there are apparently expectations for you to play it based on who you are.

For example, people often expect me to play it and are annoyed when I don’t. But if you’re a nerdy guy who seems unassuming then you get left alone. I guess when you come across as shallow people expect you to be shallow, I just did science there.

I can’t be bothered to play the game and most of the time it gets me attacked by people who are playing the game heavy. Don’t want to bitch or gossip behind people's backs? Well, that’s that for you then…

Life is weird like that.

The pros

There are many pros to playing the game, so if you’re a cuck then you could get something out of it, like a promotion. People want to work with people they like, so if you pretend to like people at work then they’ll want to work with you in a higher role.

At my current company, I am in a team formed of people my manager wants to try to keep as some roles are getting outsourced to India. The people on my team aren’t special, they don’t even do the job half the time. But they are friends with my manager so they’ve got the opportunity to stay over people who put in hard work every day.
