Does not posting political stances on social media really make me a bad person?
Every day all over the world there is fucked up shit happening. Most of it we don’t hear about but some things we can’t help but hear about because they make a massive impact on petrol prices. When this happens we’re encouraged by people to post something on social media.
This happened to me yesterday regarding the war in Israel and Palestine, and it was a person on Instagram. I don’t like to post about things like this as I find it a bit performative and it does nothing in the long term for movements of substance. A lot of people take strong stances on things they don’t fully understand and I don’t want to do that.
I feel bad for people who think social media makes a difference in real issues
It doesn’t matter how many people post, countries at war don’t care about your Instagram, and neither do the governments of your own country. Social media is a tool for leisure and business, so when it comes to matters like this it’s only good for branding if I’m being honest.
Not everyone comes from a country that’s all fluff so a social media post won’t change a thing. If you want to get someone fired in the US because they got angry in traffic then social media does work. But it’s not going…
