Don’t call new employees lazy
Something strange has been happening to me recently, I have been getting called lazy at new jobs. Because it happened to me a few times in a row, I thought maybe I was being lazy. But in the past I was praised for my work ethic all the time, so what’s different this time?
Have I regressed into a lazy freeloader? or are people misunderstanding me and the role that a new employee plays? Seeing as this hasn’t happened at my current job, and has only happened at 2 of the most toxic jobs I’ve ever had, I think I know the answer.
I can’t work as fast as the seasoned staff
For whatever reason people think that I should be working as fast as staff who’ve been at the company for years, sometimes nearly a decade. It’s completely out of touch and I imagine it comes from people having no patience and not grasping being a new employee. They can’t see anything outside of themselves.
They tell you it takes time to pick things up but they don’t comprehend this in practice. They get frustrated and think I should be as good as them in 2 weeks after mediocre training and not having tasks fully explained to me.
Oh, there’s nothing else I need to know is there — what about these 6 or 7 other things that come up regularly? You didn’t teach me these things because you couldn’t be…
