How do you survive every day at your shit job?

It’s something that I’m genuinely curious about as I have had a lot of shit jobs. Well, not so much shit jobs but nutcases treating me like dirt for whatever reason. It’s happening again at my new job, and it’s a new one for me.

I’m working at a small manufacturing company and I’m an assistant to a cunt. She speaks to me like dirt and nitpicks everything I do, including my appearance. She talks to me like dirt and has made me not want to be an accountant anymore.

I can’t do the job well because I haven’t been taught shit and I can’t always ask for help as she might be on one of her weird mood swings. How the fuck do people put up with this for decades? Some of you people need to teach resistance classes, or maybe your self-worth is so low you’ll tolerate anything.

Looking at the bigger picture

When it comes to shit jobs, looking at the bigger picture does help. When you see that you’re not going to be here forever and that you’re doing this for others as well as yourself, then it’s easier to stay strong.

I am not doing this for anyone else, and I don’t want to be an accountant anymore so it’s difficult. The entire point of me being here was them paying for my AATs and I don’t care to do them anymore. This company should save some money and invest in good employees instead.

I don’t mind working in finance but my experience so far has left me scarred. But I think working in Gloucestershire is partly to do with that. I have never met a demographic of people who are so desperate to cause drama.

Seeing it as training

When I meet a difficult person I try to see it as a developmental moment. There was a quote from a stoic that said: “God has given me a difficult sparring partner” in regard to dealing with assholes. It’s about reframing the situation so you’re not looking at it like a victim, and so you can find a positive.
