How I would have made the Barbie Movie
Last year my feminist friend asked me to watch the Barbie Movie. She didn’t outright say why she wanted me to watch this movie, but it was obvious. For the record, no it’s not because she thinks I’m a sexist. It’s because she thinks I have balanced views on gender issues for a guy, so she was curious what I’d think about it.
It was probably also a test.
I have to say, I don’t think the Barbie Movie is good at all. In fact, it’s one of the worst piece of shit movies I’ve ever seen. It started ok, but it fell off a cliff. The acting was fine for what it was but there was a clear lack of direction. It also dragged on for way too long for no reason.
It did a poor job of addressing the social issues in a palatable and educational way. But at the same time, the move wasn’t made for me so who cares what I think?
I think it could have been a success it just needed a better direction. It’s not a Barbie Movie problem, it’s a modern film problem. It’s all fluff and no depth. At some point, we have to look at the quality of writers and directors. They went on strike and they should have stayed on strike, AI is better.
The opportunity was there on a plate for them but they went for commercial success instead. Barbie burger anyone?
