How Looking at things from both other people’s POV makes you look

3 min readMar 17, 2025

I don’t know if people realise it or not, but most of the time we want people to pick a side. And yes, before you say it, it’s obviously our side that we want people to pick. We want people to empathise with us and make us feel like what we’re saying is valid.

If you disagree with someone or consider they may be wrong, they could feel invalidated. If you do this all the time then they may feel like you don’t like them. I’ve had friends accuse me of “always saying the opposite of what they say”, but I was just being honest.

We were growing apart as were our outlooks. They thought I was doing it to be difficult.

When you’re a person who can see things from multiple points of view you can actually piss a lot of people off. You may accidentally point out the flaw in their logic or look like you’re showing compassion for the other side.

You might be right to look at things from both sides, but being right isn’t always the right thing to be. Sometimes you should shut up and agree.

Let’s use politics as an example

Not because I want to have a political discussion, but because it’s an easy example that everyone can understand.
