How to build a toxic work environment 101
I thought today I’d write a post about how to create a toxic work environment. I’m writing this because so many companies seem intent on creating toxic work environments, and although they’re good, they’re not quite perfect.
This post is basically a summary of all the best toxic traits I’ve seen throughout my career. Maybe if you’ve got a new startup you can incorporate them into your company so you can lose staff and develop a bad reputation.
Don’t tell new staff the full story
When you hire new staff you’re going to want to keep major components of the job and the company a secret, especially the toxic stuff.
When the employee finds out that your words and actions don’t align and they realise they’re in a nightmare, make sure to deny that there are any problems and gaslight them.
You’ve been open and honest as far as you’re concerned.
Hire your friends and family
Hiring your friends and family means that all fairness and professionalism go out the window, and that’s exactly what you want.
You want a place that feels like being at school rather than a multi-million-pound business that holds the fate of many in its hands.
