“I could do what you do, I just don’t have the time”

Back when I first started writing on Medium I got a comment from a person who used to read a lot of my posts, and it said: “I would write posts like this but I don’t have the time”. This was a person who didn’t have a single post on his page.

I thought this was one of the most douchey comments I’d ever read when I first saw it, and I stand by that today. The reason being he couldn’t write posts like me and he was trying to justify to me without being prompted. It reeked of insecurity and arrogance.

If that guy really wanted to do it he would have, and there’d be no excuses. He had time to read my posts frequently and comment but not to write anything. How convenient is that? I don’t like people like this, either you do it or you don’t, but don’t claim you’re too busy for it. Don’t hide your failings behind pride.

If you want to genuinely do something you’d find a way to do it. It’s like when Wesley Sneijder said he could have been like Ronaldo or Messi but he decided not to because he liked to drink and have fun.

The fact you’re not doing that thing says you can’t do that thing and mentality is the biggest factor. If you were built like that you’d be doing that shit. When you come up with excuses not to do something you’re basically saying you’re not capable of doing that thing…
