“I don’t have an accent” and other oblivious elitist things privileged people say
When you’re around privileged people you have to prepare yourself mentally as you’re going to hear them say a lot of dumb shit. Some of this shit is going to make you laugh and some of it is going to make you want to jump off a bridge.
I haven’t had many privileged friends in my life and for good reason. They are more attracted to me now as they think I’m one of them, but once we spend some time together it’s like oil and water. They think I’m smart and they like the fact I’m introspective. For some reason, privileged people love to think they’re deep.
Something that you hear them say a lot, in the UK at least, is “I don’t have an accent”. This gives you a good insight into their mindset. They are completely unaware that everyone has an accent and they think their way of speaking is the default. Basically what this means is they think the way they do things is the right way and everyone else should either do as they do or they’re wrong.
When they’re broke
When privileged people say they are broke, what they mean is that they’re not rich. You will still see them out, you will still see them living in expensive neighbourhoods, and they will still go on multiple holidays a year. To them being broke means not being able to…
