I hate personality hires

If you’re not familiar with what a personality hire is, it’s a person who’s hired due to their personality alone. I bet that surprised you. In theory, this person would be the ideal person to work with, but in reality, it’s the opposite. They’re fucking annoying.

It makes a lot of sense when you think about what a personality hire is. They’re just people who hang out at work, it’s not productive and it’s not fun. You need people who can do the work and be cool.

I’m not knocking anyone who has been personality-hired, you can’t always help it and I’ve been personality-hired myself. I’ve been hired for other dumb reasons too.

It’s important once you get an opportunity to take it and be grateful. Don’t be one of the bad ones and be an obstacle for everyone trying to do their jobs.

Jobs where everyone is a personality hire

The worst place to work is somewhere where everyone is a personality hire. These places aren’t so bad when you’re young as you’re not serious about work at all, but as you get older these places become infuriating.

No one knows what they’re doing and you’re expected to play childish social games which you’ve probably moved on from at this point — I hope so anyway. Then you’ve got the drama and the disturbed people in management…
