I’m starting a new career from scratch at 28
Starting a new career at 28 isn’t the biggest deal in the world, what’s more interesting is why this happened and why it had to happen. 28 is around the age when you have to grow up and start to get things right or there could be long-lasting effects during the most critical years of your life.
The older you get the less reversible things are so if you’re not happy in your career around 30 it’s time to make a change now before it’s too late. Don’t get me wrong, you can always change careers no matter how old you are, but the younger you are the easier it is.
I’ve gone from marketing to finance because I’ve realised as many people in marketing do that marketing really is a shit career. It should be good but it just isn’t.
I was forced into this
I didn’t actually have any solid plans to change my career up until very recently. I always planned to stay in marketing, and when that didn’t work out, I took account management jobs as a stop-gap and tried to make money on my own.
In the end, marketing ended up rejecting me. I couldn’t get a job in the field despite having experience and ambition and when I did get a job it was a nightmare.
