I’m still yet to meet a smart accountant
I’ve been working in finance for around a year now and I’ve met many accountants, but I’m yet to meet one that I’d consider intelligent. I’ve met accountants in previous roles and it was the same. I’m sure they do exist and it’s important to note that I’ve lived in Manchester and Gloucestershire where intelligence is frowned upon. If I moved to London I’m sure it would be very different.
I only mention this because accountants are always made out to be smart people, and if you speak to them they’ll tell you the same without it even being the topic of discussion.
I’ve met 2 types of accountants:
- Failed engineers
- Privileged people who like maths

They don’t work as long as I thought
When you look into the work-life balance of an accountant, you’ll see that they work long hours, and it’s offputting for many people. When you work with accountants, you’ll see that most of them have a pretty relaxed schedule, probably too relaxed in some cases.
Maybe at bigger companies with more pressure they’re worked to the bone, but at smaller companies, they’re chilling. Most accountants who work over their designated hours that I’ve met do it voluntarily. Some accountants are…
