Is a high achiever what we think it is?

Do all high achievers reach the top? and are all people at the top high achievers?

According to the internet, a high achiever is “a person who achieves more than the average person in their work.”

Something just doesn’t sit right with me about that definition. There are a lot of factors that affect how far someone goes at work, and not all work is so hard that it takes a high achiever to get to the top.

Some people prefer to work for themselves and do their own thing. Their work is top tier but because they’re not at a company they go under the radar.

It makes me cringe when people come from small towns and they speak about how successful they are. You bought your house young because it was cheap because no one wants to live in that shithole town you grew up in. They’d probably pay you to take a house there so you don’t leave. You’re at the top of your current company because it’s small and there is no competition, it would have been harder to fail.

Privilege

People of privilege have a better chance of succeeding in life and most of them do ok at worst. They’re not necessarily people that I would call high achievers, they’re only where they are because of their privilege. They would have gotten somewhere in life even if they didn’t put any…
