My Parents Don’t Agree With My Career Choice

What you do for a living is such an important choice, so it’s good to get some feedback from others to help you make a decision. In most situations, those people end up being your parents. They know you better than most and they have been around the block themselves.

It’s great to ask for feedback from your parents, but at the end of the day, they don’t get a say in what you end up doing. But people are entitled and they’ll use anything they can to get you to do what they want you to do.

“I raised you.”

“I created you.”

“I’m your parent.”

“You’re hurting me and the family with your selfish decision.”

The more I write about families, the less I want to have one.

It’s Very Common

It’s very common for parents to not agree with their kid’s career choices, but most of them don’t care to the point it causes friction. Rational people can accept that not everyone- and this includes their child will do things that they don’t agree with and be very happy.

If your parents are going crazy because of your career choice it’s either because they’re dictator parents, or because they spent a lot of money on you and you’re throwing it back in their face.
