Why you should avoid overtracking and monitoring your life

If you’re like me, then you like to track and monitor elements of your life. It helps with things like self-reflection and improving aspects of your life that you might otherwise miss. If you don’t know how bad something is then you can’t correct it.

I think an underrated aspect of your mentality that tracking your life improves is accountability. When you’re aware of what your life is truly like with stats and data then you can look at the reasons behind them and take accountability for what's gone right, and more importantly, what's gone wrong.

You have all the information in front of you so there is no hiding. The only problem is the one that humans will always fall into — overdoing it. Yes, people have naturally gone too far and tracked things to the point that it’s unhealthy and will probably make their lives worse.

When we fail in one aspect of our lives humans tend to overcompensate out of fear. Some people just enjoy it too much and want to learn everything, plus they enjoy the challenge of self-improvement.
