Signs your new team is a mess and it’s their fault
In the past, I have been hired by a few companies to help them with some tasks because they were struggling in one way or another. It’s normally the workload, but sometimes it’s for other reasons.
Most of the time when the team is struggling it’s either the manager's fault or it’s the team's fault as a whole. If it’s the manager that’s one thing, but when the team as a whole is weird that brings a more difficult challenge.
The team being shit still falls on the manager as they’re a reflection of them. But at the same time, it’s everyone's responsibility as an individual to work hard and not be a toxic cog in the machine.
Some people just aren’t independent enough to not be toxic if their environment is. They become whatever they’re exposed to because they are weak.
No one takes initiative
Some teams I’ve worked for have been quite passive. Everyone is scared to take responsibility for one reason or another and people don’t want to make a mistake. If there is no pressure for anyone to take initiative people won't.
I am a person who takes initiative so when I join the team people look at me like I’m an alien. People actually don’t like this because they don’t like self-led people, but they do have someone to push responsibility onto.
People get jealous and confused. How does a guy who’s been working for over a decade go into a job and get on with it? It’s insane! I don’t mind though, I just wait for the worst members of the team to start their bullshit.
The fake family shit
When you go into a team and they’re doing the “fake family we’re really close” bs you know you’re in for some shit. They’re all going to gossip and backstab and there is probably going to be a clique-type atmosphere. If you’re different then you’re going to be targeted.
No one can be honest with each other and it creates a tense atmosphere at times…
