Suffering through my manager's mid-life crises

At my job I’ve just left I had a manager who wasn’t much of a manager. I know, you’re shocked, a middle manager who's incompetent. I’d say she was more like a child who had been given the reigns as a joke on work experience, but she never left. She only got the job through a friend who quickly left after she and my manager hired me.

She was not far off 40, and when people get to that age they go through something disturbing — a midlife crisis.

Only, she wasn’t going through it alone, the entire team was being dragged through it as well… I’m only 28 and I’ve already experienced a mid-life crisis.

Thx.

“I’m a thrill seeker”

She labelled herself a thrill seeker in order to make us think that she was fun, but if you met her you’d quickly realise that she’d be too scared to eat brown bread let alone do anything fun. It was embarrassing as she was more boring than the average person.

She was basically an alcoholic who spent all of her time either in the pub or at work — smelling like the pub. Genuinely, I was furious because she stank of shit and I had to suffer through it.

She thought that being 38 and going to depressing clubs in Gloucester was living life to the max, when in reality all she was doing…
