The British obsession with class is getting old
British people are obsessed with class, but it’s for good reason. Class plays a major factor in everyday life and people of different classes act in very distinct ways.
If you’re foreign and move to the country, it won’t take you long to see the differences between working, middle, and upper-class people. You have to almost act and treat them all differently to survive.
This still doesn’t change the fact that obsessing over class is very 18th century and we as a country should move on. I doubt it will ever happen anytime soon though.
Many people here wear their class as an identity the same way people do with sports teams and social identities.
Your experiences change drastically depending on class
When you speak to people from other countries and ethnic backgrounds, no matter how much they make it’s usually a pretty consistent experience. I am aware that some other countries do have their own issues with class as well.
With British people you tend to have to adjust your behaviour to accommodate the person you’re dealing with or that interaction can go very south.
You also have to do this so the other person doesn’t think less of you, there is an air of smugness when it comes…
