The middle-class hipster archetype
When I was a kid, I heard a lot of people talk about how they hated hipsters. I saw it online for the most part it was one of the first memes I saw, and I heard it enough in real life as well.
I didn’t get it at the time, I thought it was just people hating on the style and an “enemy” group of people. You know you have your different subcultures, and some of them get along and even cross over, whilst others hate each other.
Now as an adult, I fully understand why people don’t like hipsters. Hipsters are humans like the rest of us which means there are good ones and bad ones, but Christ, it's an annoying scene, and there is a clear reason for this…
It’s middle-class people with an identity crisis and a big ego.
I’ve lived with hipsters, worked with hipsters, hung out in the places they hung, and I have studied them deeply. They have many traits that you wouldn’t want to be around as an adult.
If you think about everything you’d want in a friend as an adult who wants to be happy, a hipster isn’t that, unless you’re a hipster yourself.
