Toxic Workplace Stories Chapter 4: The Cult

This was one of the weirder work experiences in my life and one that I hope to forget quickly. Of course, I know that writing about it again won’t help but there are still some things I want to share about working there.

I’ve worked at some weird companies and I’ve worked with a lot of weird people, but I never thought I’d be working for a cult. You won’t be surprised to hear it was exactly as you’d expect it to be.

It was a place that had strict rules, spiteful two-faced staff, and was focused on making money so much you forgot it was supposed to be religious. If you weren’t told these people were religious you’d never know.

They were very tactical

They told me what I wanted to hear in the interview but at the same time made sure to not tell me too much about the job and work environment. Even getting a start date and working hours confirmed after the interview was a challenge.

Although admitting they were a strict religious community would put a lot of people off joining them, it benefits them in no way to withhold this information as it drastically changes the work environment. You couldn’t even have a normal conversation in this place.

They sent out fake employee satisfaction surveys that were advertised as anonymous. It was…
