Toxic Workplace Stories Chapter 3
I have to start this by saying that I was only in this job because I got wrongfully offered what was as close to a dream job as I could get. A fully remote job that was paying well and doing something very easy. I thought it was too good to be true, and it was.
I quit my job and all, so it meant that I had to find a new role fast. I never actually got an apology from that company.
They promised a lot
I liked my interviewer and still do, she seemed like the most genuine interviewer I’ve ever had. I don’t think she meant to overpromise I just think she was eager to get me on board as I was a good candidate. They even let me take the maths test twice as I botched it up the first time.
She was not bright enough to understand that if you don’t follow through on your promises then people will be annoyed.
They promised me growth, progression, independence, and a long-term career. What I got was poor training, no route up, and I was essentially made into someone’s personal assistant so there was no freedom. Half the people I spoke to had been there less than a year so I knew that it wasn’t a long-term career.
