If you’re unfamiliar with this term, a chav is a word for a type of person that you get in the UK. It’s a derogatory term and one that’s normally aimed at the working class.

I grew up in a chavy area and I’d say that I was definitely one of them growing up. People say that you shouldn’t call people chavs but they are definitely a real thing. They’re a distinct type of person that speak, dress, and act in a specific way.

There is no other word for this type of person but we can’t pretend they don’t exist.

The chav mentality

Chavs are typically drawn to drama and aggression and get angry very quickly. Some people say that’s because they’re not very bright… I’ll let you draw your own conclusions.

They release their anger in bursts of shouting and swearing and will often challenge people to a fight and throw out threats that they’ll almost never follow through with.

Chavs don’t value things like education, culture, or general exploration of life which makes them very dull people to be around. They do love TV and use alcohol and cigarettes as a coping mechanism for their inner sadness.
