What does the quiet quitting backlash look like?
Quiet quitting has been spoken about for a while, but what are employers doing to combat it? I’ve seen the defensive articles from bosses on Medium so I know that managers do notice and care about this movement. But can they stop it?
Quiet firing
Some corporate managers have decided to fight fire with fire and have decided to try quiet firing people who have quiet quit.
What I don’t understand is that quiet firing is essentially what quiet quitters want, so it seems counterproductive. Quiet quitters aren’t doing it so that they get noticed by their boss, they’re people who’ve given up and just want to get on with their job and go home.
So in this situation, you may say everyone wins, or nothing has changed.
Looking for employees elsewhere
Employers are weary about who they hire now, and they don’t want to hire people who’re going to quit mentally, and if they are, they don’t want to pay them as much.
I’ve seen American employers going to Mexico for employees disguising it as something else. Employees need to realise that just as they have options, some employers do too and they won’t hesitate to go elsewhere if their employees aren’t going to give them what they want.
