What I learned from 4 days in Toulouse
I actually went to Toulouse all the way back in March, this gives you an idea of how many topics I have to write about. I have over 100 in my drafts and counting.
I really enjoyed the trip, it was my first time abroad by myself and it was a big step for me as I went to a place where I couldn’t speak the language. I spent most of my time exploring the city on foot, even the not-so-touristy parts, and it gave me a good picture of how life is there.
My most proud moment was when I went into a bakery and ordered something I didn’t know how to pronounce. I had been ordering dinner online at that point because I didn’t have the confidence to go out and buy things except in convenience stores. I don’t know what the fuck it was, but it tasted like victory.
Toulouse knows how to do bikes properly
The first thing that I noticed was that they do cycling very well in Toulouse. They have their own cycling lanes for the most part and when a lane ends it joins to the road in a safe way that makes sense.
Even on pavements, bikes have their own lanes, but they’re proper lanes not faded white lines drawn on the ground that people don’t notice. They have their own crossings on the pavements and bikes are made a priority.
