What is it like to have a job interview while depressed?

I was depressed but I still had to find a way to pay the bills. But when you’re depressed you’re of course not the same as when you’re feeling good, and it’s hard to hide that from the interviewer. This means more rejections and more of a reason to be depressed.

It’s a vicious cycle.

Then on top of that, you have to put up with the normal interview bullshit but you’re not as motivated to deal with it, and more importantly, you can’t be bothered. You’re also having more interviews as you’re failing more, so there is more bullshit to deal with.

Depression and employment is a difficult thing to handle.

It gives you a different perspective

When I was depressed I looked at things from the outside in more often and that made me look at the world slightly differently. I still think I do this too much now, but back then I wasn’t engaged at all and the interviewer could see it.

Everything was an observation and I wasn’t living life as a person should. I was participating out of the fact I had to but I was in my head too much. I wasn’t confident and I was paranoid that the interviewer could see what I could see.
