What The Foods That Built America Taught Me About Business
I’ve recently watched the series The Foods That Build America on the history channel. I decided to watch it because I was interested to learn more about America, as I have heritage, and I wanted to find out more about their food culture.
Turns out it’s basically all about fast food…
They didn’t focus on the food too much (because food is boring to talk about), it was more about the founder and the story of the company.
How These Ideas Are Created
Most of these companies are successful because someone came up with a new brilliant idea out of necessity or on complete accident. Of course, a lot of their success is due to timing as well. Creating affordable food during the great depression is an opportunity of a lifetime.
The other groups that were successful were the people that copied the original, and basically did the same thing. They are branded slightly differently, but they’re essentially the same. Pepsi at one point tried to make their drink taste as close to Coke as possible for example.
You Don’t Have To Be Passionate About The Product
Very few of these guys were passionate about the end product. They were passionate about making money…
