When companies teach you how to do things at a low level
If you’re experienced in your field your employer normally expresses how much they’re looking forward to what that experience can bring to the team. This is exactly what you want to hear in an interview, finally, you get a chance to show what you’ve learned over the years.
But when the job starts you quickly realise that you’re not allowed to do anything in your own way and you’re not even allowed to really bring any ideas. The department is failing and wants things to change but they’re also blocking any chances of change…
Figure that one out.
Talent will leave
Talent is talent for a reason, and if you don’t let them flourish they will get frustrated and leave, this happens in every industry. Many companies think they can suffocate people into doing things their way, even if that way is making life hard for everyone. But, when a smart person is suffocated they start to problem solve, and smart people will always find a solution to their problem.
You can’t bring smart people down forever and once they get an opportunity to jump ship they will, and it will be soon as well. They’re not going to stay at the company for years as they’re talented enough to work anywhere and smart enough to figure out how to get there.
