When Making Compromises At Work Makes Sense

Making compromises at work is a tricky one. If you don’t give enough you’re jobsworth, and annoying as fuck to work with, and if you give too much, you’ll have the piss taken out of you. Your boss won’t even think twice before giving you the extra shit, it’s just assumed you’ll do it.

So keep your guard up, but not so much that no one wants to even speak to you. Sometimes you’ve got to swallow your pride and compromise for the greater good. It may even help you in some way.

When You Don’t Have Many Other Options

Beggars can’t be choosers, so if you don’t have many options in regards to your career, then you’re going to have to toe the line and do what you’re told for the most part.

This is why you should make yourself as employable as possible and make sure that you work in a field that’s in demand. You may have landed a one-off gig, but because it’s a one-off, you can’t leave if shit hits the fan and find something similar. You’re stuck.

I’ve seen people with no option make outrageous demands at work. I’m not going to lie, if you have a cowardly boss, you can make demands and gain some sort of control. But if you push them too far you could get fired and ruin your life.

If It’s For The Good Of The Team

Even if your job is predominantly solo you’re going to have to work for your team at times. It’s a key part of being successful in a team.

If you work in a company with other employees you’re going to have to do a little teamwork. Sorry, I know that people get specific jobs so they can work alone, but the idea that you can work entirely alone in a company that contains a lot of other people is a little bit silly. It does happen but not that often.

I see people stick to their “values” when they get asked to do a little more but sometimes it’s the only way your team can solve an issue. People like this often throw others under the bus so they don’t have to get involved. Everyone notices by the way.

You’re making a simple problem turn into a big issue because you can’t do your part.
