When you grow up you realise how useless your older influences were

There are a lot of things out there that can influence a child but you’re most likely going to be influenced by friends and family. They’re the ones that are closest to you and the ones that you trust the most. In some cases, you’re not going to have a choice but to follow them.

Not everyone is blessed to have good influences growing up, and it’s a depressing realisation to find out that the people you grew up with know nothing and are going nowhere. If you follow them you’ll end up in the same place but if you don’t you could lose them.

People take pride in not trying

Some people take pride in not putting any effort into life and they encourage the people around them to do the same. They don’t understand effort and they definitely don’t want other people doing better than them in life.

To me, this is the easy way. It’s easier to pretend you don’t want to make an effort than it is to make an effort and fail.

If you’re unfortunate enough to grow up around people like this then you’ll find yourself spending most of your day sitting around watching TV and criticising people that do put effort into life. You’ll develop a mindset that it’s wrong to be this way.
