Where do you meet ambitious people at work in the UK?

I’ve been working for nearly a decade now, and I can confidently say that I have never met an ambitious person at work. So — where the fuck are they all?

British people often make fun of ambition because of course, trying to make the most out of your life is laughable.

I always thought that the harder you work and the higher you climbed, then the more ambitious people you’d meet, but I’ve found it’s the opposite. The better jobs I’ve had the lazier the people I’ve run into.

It’s London

To tell a lie, I have actually met ambitious people in the UK, and they were all from London. I completely forgot when I was writing the intro, and I’m too real to change it.

London is really the only place you’ll work with ambitious people as It’s where everything is happening. Other places will say they have a lot going on, but when you get there you’ll spend a year looking for it before you realise that they lied and you have to move back to London.

Most people use work as a social club

There’s nothing wrong with making friends at work, but it’s forced too much in the UK. You’ll have a 40-year-old woman asking a 20-year-old kid to be her mate when they have nothing in common. Then…
