Why are British people so petulant at work?

This is one of the greatest questions of all time. When you go into a British workplace it seems good at first, but then you realise that a lot of people are very — petulant. You look for a logical reason for the petulance, but there isn’t one, they’re just uptight.

The nice feeling you get from the fake smiles and lazy gestures of kindness ware off pretty quickly, then you begin to see people who they really are. Two-faced, snide people can be very creepy in the way that they go about their social interactions at work.

A lot of social interactions are massively overcomplicated, but if you try and get straight to the point you’ll be labelled “mean”.

Fear of conflict

British people are not direct and although they like to portray a stern outer shell, they’re typically afraid of any form of conflict. Because of this people display their dislike of you or something you’ve done through passive-aggressive comments or expressions.

This is frustrating enough but it gets worse when people won’t admit they’re annoyed making it impossible to resolve the issue. Something that should be dealt with in 5 seconds drags on for 5 weeks, and you have a permanent enemy.

Then they go behind your back and gossip about you as if you’re an evil person…
