Why “being happy” is not a real goal
If you ask most people what their main goal is in life, they’ll nervously stutter and tell you it’s “to be happy”. After they’ve given you that line of shit they think they’re safe. Being happy is a wholesome goal, isn’t it? and it’s something that we all want. But if that’s seriously your main goal, as a wise man once said “you’re gonna have a bad time.”
The reason it’s not a real goal is because it’s not specific and it doesn’t actually mean anything. What even is true happiness? and is that something we can even quantify? Those are questions for another day.
You need to set goals for specific things that will make you happy. No one can be happy all the time, and no one’s life is perfect, so aiming for happy perfectness is… well try it and find out. The people I’ve met who aim for a perfect life often are just faking it and lying to themselves and that says it all really.
What makes you happy
If you want to be happy, you need to know what makes you happy, and that’s part of the mission. Very few people know what truly makes them happy because they haven’t looked for it, instead, they’ve been following the crowd.
They take part in pointless activities, expensive ones too. Things like bungee jumping, skydiving, aimless travel, and what else do NPCs like? Oh yeah…
