Why can't I figure out what I want to do for a career?

Whilst I grow my business I need a job, but not just any old job, something that I can potentially do for years as my business and investments grow. I still want a career, I don’t want to work with people with no drive as that’s pure agony and I’ll be in the same position again in a few months.

I can’t pick and choose

I’m not in a position to pick and choose what I do for a living, and it’s not because I’m inexperienced or because the market is bad, it’s because I’m black. I can’t just rock up to any interview and expect to be hired even if I tick every box. Some people have made the decision they will not hire me as soon as they see me.

I see it the most in video interviews as it’s hard to hide the emotions on your face. Video interviews have really made it easy to see when someone doesn’t like you, I hope that any interviewers reading this understand that.

I can’t believe the amount of fear and dislike that people still have towards black people in 2022, but there’s a reason why I’ve only ever seen 1 black hiring manager in the UK and it’s not surprising they were from London. You don’t go far in the corporate world in the UK if you’re black.
