Why do nerds think they’re special?

Nerds are often seen as bullied outcasts but one thing that I always find interesting about them is the fact that so many of them clearly consider themselves a bit special. No, not special needs, special as in different from the status quo.

It’s a bit hipster and that comes as no surprise seeing as nerd culture is a branch off the hipster tree. Sometimes nerds and hipsters are so similar you can’t tell them apart.

Nerds labels

I do understand that the term “nerd” is a label, but I only use it because there is no other word to use for this type of person, and this type of person does exist in abundance. I could call them dorks or geeks but that sounds way worse.

Nerds like to label people “normies” and that label tells you all you need to know about the person using it. Calling someone normal as an insult implies that the person using the term doesn’t consider themselves normal, they think they’re different and special.

The term “NPC” is another term that means almost the same thing. I will admit I do like this term myself because it is genuinely funny.
