Why I like people who overshare and why that’s a problem

I like people who overshare, I can be an oversharer myself at times. For example, I probably shouldn’t be sharing some of my deepest darkest thoughts online for strangers to see, but here we are. Then again, I don’t share much with people in real life as they actually know who I am.

People who overshare are easier to get to know and allow you to feel comfortable expressing yourself as they are doing it so freely… but that’s the trap.

They’re sharing things about themselves so they can catch you in their trap — and because they lack self-awareness at times. The majority of people I know who overshare are narcissists who want you to like them so they can slip into your life. We all know what happens when you open up to a narcissist.

Don’t get me wrong though, there are people who are just like that, I don’t know why, maybe they’re looking for a deeper connection.

Why I do it

I do it to feel comfortable around people and to have more human experiences. Sometimes I feel like human interaction is too robotic and fake so I share something about myself or make a joke to make people a little uncomfortable.
