Workplace Karens are the biggest obstacle in my adult life
I’ve been thinking about my life and my new goals recently, and I’ve more importantly been thinking about the things that could potentially stop me from achieving them.
The only thing I really need to do to achieve them is hold down a job, but there is one thing that’s always held me back — Karens. Karens have been a thorn in my side since I got into the workforce and it’s only gotten worse over the years.
Karens make up a large part of the female population in the UK, so if you’re in the workplace chances are you’re going to have to be around at least 1. Completely unreasonable, completely unlikable, and with no concept of compromise.
Even if you’re not working with one there is still a chance they’ll target you — good old open-plan offices. The group of Karens at my current job have used my name a few times recently, but at least it’s not only me they’re targeting, it’s everyone.
You sometimes wonder why this behaviour is never corrected by management, but then you realise that management is just as scared of them as everyone else. If they are pushed, they will pretend to cry.
